The Spring Exhibition was established by Forbundet Frie Fotografer in 1976. It is an annual group exhibition, based on open submissions selected by a jury consisting of fellow art professionals. The exhibition has been an important arena for Norwegian contemporary photography contributing to the promotion of camera-based art in the Norwegian cultural debate and the Norwegian art scene.

The exhibition for 2019 showcase a great variety of artists that in their own unique and individual way explore and question photography through themes related to identity, body, technology and science-fiction. As an overall reflection, each work speaks about our human existence in the antropocene.

The jury for the Spring Exhibition 2019 has been Kobie Nel (Head of jury), Kjersti Vetterstad and Sverre Strandberg.

During the opening of the exhibition, The Art Photography Prize of Bildende Kunstnernes Hjelpefond (BKH) will be awarded to the artist in the Spring Exhibition whose work is seen as the most significant for the exhibition. The prize is awarded annually and amounts to NOK 150.000,-. The jury for the prize 2019 is Christer Dynna (Kritikerlaget), Randi Nygård (artist representative) and Kobie Nel (FFF).

The exhibition is supported by Kulturrådet, Oslo kommune, Norsk Fotografisk Fond and BKH. It is produced by Forbundet Frie Fotografier, in collaboration with Fotogalleriet.
