BIO

Anne Katrine Senstad is a multidisciplinary Norwegian artist based in Oslo and New York. She was educated at Parsons School of Design and The New School for Social Research in New York.

Senstad works in the intersections of installation art, photography, video, site and time specific work, text based works and land art. Her work is concerned with the sensorial aesthetics, the perceptive and transformative, the transcendental ideas of art and philosophical practice, and social-political awareness. Since the mid 90’s her work has been highly concerned with the perceptive and spatial elements of light, sound and color, and a foundation for her explorations in the experiential and experimental. Her sources lie in literature, philosophy, technology and the phenomena of ocular perceptions.

Selected exhibitions include Through The Spectrum at Athr Gallery, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia alongside James Turrell, Robert Irwin and Carlos Cruz-Diez, 2018, and He-Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen, China opening December 2018. In 2018 she has shown at Octavia Art Gallery in New Orleans, Trafo Kunsthall, Bærum, The Yard and Airmattress Gallery in New York. In 2016-17 Senstad established a cross cultural all-women art platform in Saudi Arabia entitled TIME BEYOND PLACE, with support from the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture's international program, ITHRA. In 2015 she was invited to participate in the inaugural Bruges Art and Architecture Triennale (BE) with a commissioned 22 meter text based LED light site specific work entitled Gold Guides Me from her ongoing research project Capitalism in the Public Realm. She participated in the 56th Venice Biennale with 2 projects, her solo exhibition The Vanity of Vanities at El Magazen dell’Arte and The Safina Project (UAE Venice biennale Collaterali Eventi).  In 2013 she participated in the 55th Venice Bienniale at Officina delle Zattere (Venice Biennale Collaterali Eventi) in the exhibition Metamorphoses of the Virtual. In 2011 she completed a permanent major public art commission in collaboration with the internationally renowned architecture firm Snøhetta, at The Wolfe Center for the Arts, Ohio consisting of a 10 x 30 meter photographic based lobby wall installation. International exhibitions include Zhulong Gallery in Dallas, Zendai Moma in Shanghai, ThisIsNotAgallery, Buenos Aires, SALT, Utsikten Kunstsenter, Bærum Kunsthall, Galleri K4 and Stiftelsen 3,14 in Norway, Björn Ressle Gallery, Gary Snyder Gallery, Gallery Nine5 and Elga Wimmer Gallery in New York, Pink Gallery in Seuol, in New Orleans with KK Projects , Life is Art Foundation and the New Orleans Biennial Prospect 1, 2008 and Prospect Satellite +3, 2014. Ongoing collaborations with composers include the electronic sound pioneer Catherine Christer Hennix and renowned musician and producer JG Thirlwell.

Her video work has been shown at Centre Pompidou in Paris, Haus Der Kultur Der Welt, Berlin, Beirut Art Center, Lebanon, The Canadian Museum of Nature, Museum of Modern Art Ukraine in Kiev, Dallas Aurora TX, Video Arte Internacional Buenos Aires, Eva Peron Museum, Argentina, Oslo Screen Festival (NO), Reinventing Asir, part of the Dar Al Hekma University initiative in Saudi Arabia 2014, Abu Dhabi Art Hub and ISEA Dubai 2014 (UAE), and Joshua Triennial, Californnia.
